BLUEFIELDS
The
Bluefields air terminal is located on Nicaragua's Atlantic
Coast in the South Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAS), approximately
45 minutes from Managua by plane. Its coordinates are: N 11
59' 20", W 083 46' 30". It has an asphalt runway,
which is 2,000 meters long and 30 meters wide, facing 05/23
(NE-SW), and rises 26.21 meters above sea level. The air terminal
services regular daily flights by La
Costeña, as well as charter flights (air taxi). Business hours
are diurnal.
CENTER AND RADAR CONTROL
At the moment it is in process of certification for its operation. Fué constructed by means of a loan FAB with the Kingdom of Spain.
The new terminal has boarding lounges, x-ray machines for
checking baggage, immigration and customs offices, a parking
apron for 4 aircrafts, a turning circle for overnight stays,
a 15-vehicle parking lot, airline service desks, ticket counters,
courier and reservation systems.
The departure lounges feature
handicraft shops, cafes, card-activated payphones, etc.

The
following information will help travellers become acquainted
with some of the services that are available in Bluefields:
- Taxi rates in the city of Bluefields are C$ 10.00 per
person, except for trips to the airport, which cost C$ 20.00
per person.
- The airport is not far away from the city as it is located
at the end of Santa Rosa, one of the largest neighborhoods
in the southern part of Bluefields. The airport is approximately
two kilometers from the center of the city.

- The principal hotels in Bluefields are: Hotel South Atlantic
No I and II, Tel. 82-22-242 and 82-22-265 respectively,
located in Barrio Central; Hotel Tía Irene, Tel.
82-22-143, located in Barrio Pinteen; and Hotel Caribbean
Dream, located in Barrio Punta Fría and Oasis located in center the city.
- The most frequented and popular restaurants are: Chez
Marcel, Tel. 82-22-347 and 82-22-950, located in Barrio
Teodoro Martínez; Manglares, Tel. 82-22-143, located
in Barrio Pointeen; Bella Vista, Tel. 82-22-385, located
in Barrio Punta Fría; Salmar, Tel. 82-22-128, next
to Chez Marcel; Mini Cafetín Central, Tel. 822-362,
located in Barrio Central; La Loma, Tel. 82-22-275, located
in Barrio San Pedro in front of the BICU university.
- There are several recreational sites, such as Bachus,
Los 4 Hermanos and Blue Lagoon.
- Water transportation consists of 200 and 250 Hp engine
dogouts, and rates range according to the point of destination:
the rate from Bluefields to Bluff can visit these places by acuatic via.
- A tourism office is located across the street from the
Mayor's Office, in Barrio Central, Tel. 82-20-221.
- The South Atlantic Autonomous Region features many tourist
sites, such as Cayos Perlas. You must first go to Laguna
de Perlas and hire a dogout to take you to these sites.
Another interesting place is the city of Rama Kay, where
you can buy handmade tortoiseshell, coral, coconut conch,
wood, mother-of-pearl and gold souvenirs. You can find all
of this just by walking down the streets of Bluefields.
