Who are we?
The Managua International Airport is managed by EmpresaAdministradora de Aeropuertos Internacionales (EAAI),
a descentralized or autonomous state entity with its own equity
and legal status, created by Decree 1292 of August 11, 1983,
as published in La Gaceta No. 186 of August 16, 1983, and
as amended by Decree 49-91 of December 22, 1992.
The EAAI operates and grows with its own income earned from
the services provided to airports users. The EAAI currently
manages four airports: the Managua International Airport and
three national airports on the Caribbean Coast in Nicaragua's
Atlantic regions (Bluefields, Puerto Cabezas and Corn Island).
Future plans are to convert some of the airports of the Caribbean
Coast into international airports for passenger and cargo
flights from and to the Caribbean, South America and Florida,
USA. In a sense, these plans reflect the Atlantic region's
tourism potential, as well as its plentiful fish, lumber and
agricultural resources, all of which have potential for development.
In this regard, Nicaragua's air transport industry tends
to grow due to a number of external factors, such as globalization,
market liberalization, and strategic airline agreements and
alliances in the region. On the other hand, governments are
making their air traffic policies and negotiation models more
flexible. Among the domestic factors are political and economic
stability, tourism promotion, investments incentives, and
the processes to privatize basic services, such as telecommunications
and energy. Given this new reality, the EAAI is sucessfully
implementing more aggressive strategies and policies in the
short, medium, and long term.
